The Palestinian Action Group (PAG) was successful yesterday in having NSW Police objections to this Sunday’s rally dismissed in the Supreme Court. Monday’s vigil to mark the first anniversary of the war in Gaza will also go ahead.
Supporters of the planned rally waited outside court during the hearing, celebrating at the breaking news that the demonstration would proceed.
Some human rights and civil liberties experts are calling for a ‘charter of human rights’ to replace what they call the undemocratic system of police approvals for demonstrations in NSW.
Sunday’s rally will take place at Hyde Park at 1pm, while Monday’s vigil will take place at Town Hall at 6pm. It’s expected a heavy police presence will be on hand.
