COVID-19-Diaries: Fairfield in Lockdown

In contrast to yesterday’s crowded scenes at Bondi Beach, Fairfield, in Sydney’s south-west was quiet, with streets close to empty. On the other hand, one of the largest COVID-19 testing stations in the state, at Fairfield Showgrounds, saw a steady stream of traffic.

NSW recorded the highest COVID tests on record today, numbering over 77,000, with the bulk of those conducted in south-west Sydney. It is thought that the high level of tests was due to a new order stipulating that any workers from the Fairfield Local Government Area need to get tested every 3 days if they are travelling outside the area for work.

97 new cases were detected today as pressure continued to mount on the State Government to tighten restrictions further.
